Ny telefon :-) endelig.

Microsofts demands for certified hardware for win 8 are scary.
Microsofts demands for certified hardware for win 8 are scary.
http://www.softwarefreedom.org/blog/2012/jan/12/microsoft-confirms-UEFI-fears-locks-down-ARM/
On Intel they demand that the UEFI boot loader must support custom mode (where the owner of the device can add signatures for other operating systems) and that it must be possible to disable secure mode completely. This is reassuring for users of alternative operating systems, since any Win 8 certified system should then be unlockable at the UEFI level.
On ARM it is quite opposite. On ARM microsoft cannot be accused of being a monopolist, so on that platform they demand that UEFI must only be able to run in secure mode, and with no possibility for custom mode. Meaning no way to add new certificates. This means that certified win8 units running with ARM processors will be completely locked down to only run certified operating systems where the signature is preloaded from the manufacturer.
I see no demand here that vendors cannot preload certificates for other operating systems, so if this is really the future for ARM hardware then The Linux Foundation may want to coordinate a list of certificates for all linux distros and make these available for hardware vendors? That would give them a possibility to still be compliant with the microsoft demands, and at the same time allow us to boot linux. Hopefully the certificate list can still be legally updated by firmware patches from the manufacturer so support for new operating systems can be added that way?
