The death of a thousand licks

The death of a thousand licks

I got careless. Stupid.

I relaxed. Should have known better.

It was so quiet. I was on my knees, cleaning the lowest bookshelf. I never noticed the two black ninjas sneaking up on me.

I never even got to put up a fight. They had me on my back, pinned to the floor in a fraction of a second. Without a sound. The torture started immediately.

The death of a thousand licks is really a variant of waterboarding. It leaves you feeling like you are constantly about to drown. Whenever you think you are able to draw a breath a tongue gets jammed down you throat. With two of them in a coordinated attack I could not even collect my thoughts enough for any basic defense. I was dying. At some point I at least managed to get my phone out and get a picture. I wanted those who found me to understand what had happened.

And then they were gone. Like they had never been there. This single picture is the only proof of my near death.

What I learned from this QA session has given me unique insight and a new unified theory of earth shape that encompasses the round and flat ones. I am not certain how it extends to concave earth yet.

The problem: Flat earthers see the world as a sloppily programmed simulation where earth is definitely flat. By admitting that this is due to sloppy programming they do admit that the bigger lines of the simulation suggests a round earth. Right?

So, my new theory is that the computing power driving this simulation isn't unlimited. They have to prioritize. The AIs that are important to the purpose of the simulation are prioritized and see a world where all details are consistent and science makes sense. As AIs with support roles are removed further from the main purpose of the simulation the allocated compute resources result in a more and more "sloppy" world.

I am certain the purpose of the simulstion can be deduced by looking at the people living in the world described by conspiracy theories and those living in the self-consistent one. The number 42 may be involved.

Bold move, NSB. Love it.

A statement I made on the Health Care System in the US, here: https://plus.google.com/u/0/+YonatanZunger/posts/WHa6uUfNv7q

Do you know what the entire rest of the world sees when we look at the US Health Care system?

We see a system where everyone is forced to wear masks which regulate how much air they can breathe. People are charged for the privilege of wearing these masks, and this charge is quite a lot, because the masks are expensive, and a lot of R&D goes into improving those masks, so that they can better control how much air a person gets for the price they pay: poor people don't get a lot of air, because they can't afford to open the valve, much less get access to a mask with better flow or higher quality air. Some people die because their air needs are more than they can afford. There are supposedly rules to stop that sort of thing, but then you get retroactively charged for the emergency air. Rich people don't notice that there might be a problem, because they can afford as much air as they like, with a fancy low-weight mask and the ability to pipe in higher oxygen with fresh mountain-air scents and a just hint of nitrous to improve mood. There is, after all, a limit as to how much air you can breathe, when you're not under stress. When you're sick, of course, you might need more air and extra oxygen, and higher pressure, but if you're sick you can't afford that, and if you're poor, then you can't afford the minimum air to stay healthy, and so the poorer you are, the more likely you are to need more air, so there's a horrible vicious circle.

People who mention that there might be something a little bit fucked up about all this are talked down by serious people who talk about airflow budgets, and hose infrastructure, and air pump maintenance, and of course, the massive budget in researching new and better masks which more tightly control air in order to keep up with these massive costs, you wouldn't understand, you haven't seen the budgets lying behind the mask companies. There are billions of dollars going around in this, and we have the best air masks in the world: in fact, we are doing all the research in this field and we're carrying the rest of the world. They say they have a better system, but it's only because we're subsidising them. I mean, look at places like Australia and England. England has filthy, dirty air, and Australia's air is full of dust and smoke and eucalyptus oil and the odour of sheep! How can they possibly compare with the air which you get piped to you? They're just jealous of our Air System: in fact I saw an Englishman commenting on our air just the other day.

Meanwhile, what the rest of the world is saying is WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU FORCING PEOPLE TO PAY FOR BREATHING?

We don't care about your confected economies and budgets of invoices which won't be paid full of charges which bear no relationship with costs and the complete ignoring of the parasite of Insurance Companies sucking a massive proportion of all the money involved straight into a black hole (don't say it goes to research, you're not fooling anyone).

Your system is fundamentally fucked.

So this guy "invented email" in 1978 and is suing anyone who claims otherwise. But Queen Elisabeth had quite a bit of press coverage when she sent her first email over ARPANET in 1976. Does he dare to sue the queen and the british press?
