So after mentioning the negative aspects only, you say "I am a decent, sane, and moral human being"? whoever wrote this is way worse than who he's talking about.
Because you may have any faith you wish as long as it is personal, but once you start affecting other peoples lifes negatively because of your faith anyone has a right and an obligation to speak out.
If religions were sane and healthy there would be no reason for atheists to be outspoken, would there?
But religions, churches, holy books - they are all made by men to control their people.
Be religious if you want to. But be good about it.
If fauith was not so religiously imposed upon others then those others and me included would have no idea what faith anybody was and that his because we do not care. Religion is somebody else's problem and yet they keep imposing it like little Hitler's and cry emo when people turn around and point put the oh so many flaws in this tolerated form of mental illness.
So if religious think atheists seem unfair it is because they started it and show little to no tolerance of others views.
This is why religion has in many flavours and forms repressed and abuased athiests for so many years that they just fail to grasp what dicks they are and think it is always others fault.
That is why we are sane and moral human beings, because religion lowered the bar so low that it is not hard to stand above it.
birger monsen I understand that, but what I don't understand is that atheists are doing the same exact thing by saying that everyone else is dumb and forcefully selling the idea that atheism is the only ideology that ever contributed anything to humanity, and doing so in a way that really makes it hard to even want to have a civilised discussion especially on the Internet, even though I belive that most people are more respectful in real life. Paul Gray I also understand what you're saying, but it's never good to generalise. Before hating something so much one owes himself to at least understand the difference between religions and the way these religions are followed.
Saud Al-Farhan a fair comment, though I don't hate religion, I just despise it for the crimes against humanity it has carried out and carries on with even today.
As I said religion has as much right to respect me as I it and with that, I'm still ahead, sadly.
I judge people on who they are, nothing to do with religion and know many religious people in my life. They do not push there religion onto me and I do not push there religion out of them. Works well, when can focus on the common ground.
I must say though, I would love if all the religious and non-religious factions found a common goal and focused upon that together. So much time is wasted focusing upon the differences sadly.
But a good person is a good person, illnesses or not aside.
Saud Al-Farhan the image above doesn't say anything about religious people in general, does it?
It's just those who want to impose their religious views on others through force, through laws or just plain bullying. About religious crazies of all kinds.
If you know the passage from the bible where moses warns about false idols (specifically a golden calf his people had made while he fetched the ten commandments) then that golden calf is how i think of every kind of religion/church. They are man-made, and if there really is any kind of god then the path to her does not go through any man-written books.
Personally i do not believe in any god, but i do not see religious people as stupid just because they are religious.
Look at Westboro Baptist Church. People who claim to be christians, but break most rules in the new testament every single day. A church gone completely astray. But it's ok since they are "christians". What they do to innocent people should be illegal. It is evil and sadistic.
One difference between most atheists and most religious people is that an atheist focus's upon morals and religious people focus upon the suspected messenger of those morals.
Yet both will logically accept that it is the deeds and words that are important over anybody who says them.
One thing to consider though is religion pre-dates a time of laws and courts that protect a moral core standard along with a understanding of the universe. All magic tricks over time, become commonly understood and explained until they are no longer, magic.
But bad people will always find bad ways to do bad things to good people, whatever there predisposition of guidance and support.
Sadly many bad people do many bad things in the saddest form of life denying in the name of religion. Yet the good religious people are doing themselves no good by spending more time defending there religion towards good people instead of defending it against bad people doing bad things in the name of there religion. With that they could be more vocal in words and action against such people and with that the true morality of people is defined.
Even nowadays there are some "religion" that have some middle-ages behavior, as has the atheist who writes the message in the picture of the post. Religion means to re-ligate (re-connect) people with the creator, set people free and happy, nothing on the other direction. BUT some imbeciles have used the sacred texts to say some people is less and it's OK to "us" to make "them" slaves, or cast them aside. But no great holly text says so, not if analyzed correctly (I know Christian and Buddhist text and they talk about equity, solidarity and freedom). Some atheist are just non believers, and they are respectful. Some others didn't ever study a sacred text properly and judge religions because of one or two imbecile nuts that kill people, or say this and that about other races, religions, peoples, sexual orientation, etc. That is EQUALLY stupid and primitive as what they are accusing believers. Period.
Gonzalo Velasco C. if only everybody could see that any almighty god would have no need for us to kill each other in his name.
Read the text in the image again. It does not attack religion, but states that because of all those negative facets of religion as it is practiced around the world i need to be vocal about my atheism.
Nothing would make me happier than to have people of every faith imaginable say the same thing. I think we agree, even if our personal beliefs differ.
I agree on agreeing! But the rest is your opinion. As valid as mine :-) Remember believing is not just for small people like me. Great scientists and writers, even philosophers believe too. Cheers.
