Well, thinking with "love", they can be removed and put in an aquarium or donated to a university. No need to nuke them... ;-) But never release them into another environment, cause they can become a plague like the gold-mussel, some zooplankton, tilapias, carps, rats, etc.
If they were even alive anymore in our colder water. I couldn't see any movement. But i agree on making sure that everything scraped off stays on land.
Perhaps snails...
