  3. birger monsen thank you for the translation. I think I understand it to be saying don't repeat the persecution of a group of religious people. Beyond that it's kind of vague; the jews weren't going around cutting off the heads of innocent civilians, whereas the Muslim religion is being used to justify barbarism and merits defending against. What is your take on the context of this comment?

  4. It is enough to read the editorial columns of the biggest norwegian christian newspaper, Dagen, to get a reminder of how much christianity and islam are really the same. And the jews in current day israel killing palestinian kids?

There are too many extremists in any religion. And too many power seekers riding on the religious masses. But that is a general problem, not a problem with islam. The percentage of muslims supporting IS is much lower than the percentage of christians supporting the white power churches, the westboro baptist lunatics, etc.

So, no, I am not willing to judge the muslim family on the bus by the actions of IS any more than I judge the elderly neighbors who I can hear playing piano and singing hymns on sundays by the actions of westboro baptists or the crusaders.

  5. birger monsen I get it and agree you can't judge the lot by the actions of the minority. Do their sweet voices cancel their culpability? Isn't there a responsibility of those who represent their faith to stand against those who are violating their religion's sacred beliefs? If they remain silent and fail to hold them accountable, in the end are they not as guilty as those taking those innocent lives? How does "attacking" Muslims for their actions compare to the wholesale extermination of a religious group?

  6. Why do we never ask the same of christians? Why are we willing to accept that most christians are not closet extremists? Because we know them as individuals around us. As family members.

And at the same time we are so afraid that any muslim is a threat. There are at least 1.7 billion muslims on this planet. What would the world look like if it really was a violent religion?

By CIA's own assessment the percentage of muslims sympathising with IS is very very low.

Perhaps it is time to reach out to each other as brothers and sisters. Show that we trust the word of the quran that tells muslims to live peacefully side by side with christians. And trust education to dismantle religion.

Here we are now officially < 50% religious. Conservative christians are in a frenzy that islam is rising compared to christianity ("sharia law will take over" etc) while the real interpretation of the numbers would be that islam is just decreasing slower than christianity as it takes a few generations for immigrants to get there.

  7. birger monsen I have the impression, after spending 55 years paying close attention, that the majority of humans are like me. I want to avoid conflict, work towards justice and live a good life in peace. I don't feel the need to elevate one religion over another when they are all delusional constructs. I take great exception to those constructs, as they have given birth to unmanageable nightmares that are consuming our future. You think we should trust the books of these religions when they are filled with superstitions, ignorance, fear and worse? The CIA is of no value in this discussion. Christians, Muslims and Jews, they all are as culpable as the next. Consider the horrors done in the name of religion and tell me if you do not find them all guilty of professing righteousness and delivering worse than hypocrisy? So while you may feel a certain sympathy for Muslims, I see all faiths placed in imaginary entities as the cause of our societal collapse and worthy of my opposition.
