How the FDA and AquaBounty weaseled their way to genetically modified salmon approval.

The FDA and a company called AquaBounty performed some incredible feats of misdirection to get fast-growing, genetically modified salmon approved for consumption in the United States.

First, the FDA released it's environmental assessment just before Christmas, when everyone was preoccupied with the holiday. 

Second, the FDA classified the man-made "species" not as an animal, but as a drug in order to expedite the approval process. It's faster to get drugs approved in the United States than it is genetically modified foods. (AquAdvantage salmon have a cluster of genes from two other species of fish that make it grow much faster than natural salmon -- the fish above contrast natural salmon with the lab-engineered variety.)

And third, in order to get approval, the FDA needed only plausibly predict "an extremely low likelihood" that AquAdvantage salmon would affect "the environment of the United States." Sure, it could affect the environments of other countries and the Pacific Ocean if or when the salmon escape and breed with wild salmon -- but that's not the United States, so no worries. 

The salmon eggs will be produced in Canada, and the fish raised in tanks in Panama in order to avoid affecting "the environment of the United States."

I have 2 questions for Lenovo  regarding the USB 3.0 dock:

1) Will there be a version of this dock with DisplayPort or better instead of DVI? The DisplayLink chipset claims to support higher resolution monitors, but not on DVI ports. I would like higher resolutions so I can switch to dual 27" 2560x1440 (or better) monitors.

2) Linux support for the display ports on this dock. Currently I can only have one external screen connected to the mini DP port on my laptop. The DisplayLink ports in the dock are useless. I know it's up to DisplayLink to release the driver, but can you kick their shins for me? With some more weigth than I have? They have ben saying that it is forthcoming since they introduced the newer chipsets, but nothing has emerged so far.

Vi bør i fellesskap tenke over at vi som betabrukere i bergen by har et ansvar for presentasjonen av byen når betaperioden er over.

Skal vi hver for oss gjøre en jobb med eksisterende og nye portaler, skal vi jobbe fraksjonsvis eller skal vi sammen designe en komplett oppgraderingspakke for bergen by?

Det jeg har i tankene er:
Oppdatere navn på en konsistent måte. Riktige navn på kunstverk, etc. Riktige koordinater. Få på plass en beskrivelse, gjerne bare som en wikipedia-link e.l. Bedre bilder. Fjerne meningsløse eller overflødige portaler.
