Package installer with more user-oriented features
I have been thinking that for Linux to have a better chance of taking off the software installer GUI could get better. learn a bit from the smartphone app stores.
User comments/scores, a form for developer feedback, a link to the correct website/buzilla/Wiki/FAQ for the package... Screenshots! The works... The comments/scoring part would require some new framework. The rest are only links that could be part of the SPEC file for the package.
Also, add support for commerce, so that the installer can support commercial repositories. A 'buy' button that forwards to a way to pay for the app (could be up to the repo provider to have the back end for this). The monetary transaction could then return a key that automagically allows unpacking and installation of some kind of encrypted rpm package from a otherwise normal yum repo?
I particularly agree on the package manager issue. The lack of any meaningful progress indicator in the GUI means I usually stick to yum on command line. With dnf on the horizon things may change, but it could mean a halt to development on gpk while features are developed for a new dnf front end, further delaying such improvements.
